Anytime you are not training your Type 2b muscle fibers… you are KILLING your vertical jump. If you expect to jump higher, don’t waste time, effort, money, or energy focusing on anything other than training these muscles. You will NOT jump higher.
You have 3 different types of muscle fibers in your body (Type 1, Type 2a, Type 2b). Type 1 are slow twitch (cross country), Type 2a are fast twitch, and Type 2b are the most explosive muscle fibers and move with the greatest contractional velocity. The more we can focus on ONLY training our type 2b muscle fibers the more explosive we will be.
